History Of The Bells

A ring of 3 from 1826 that are hung for ringing in an ancient wooden frame. They were retuned and rehung with new fittings by Taylors in 1939, who also strengthened the frame by the addition of iron angle plates. All the bells have been quarter turned and retain their canons. The second and tenor bells were tuned at the time of their casting and the second has responded well to the tuning machine at Taylors. The treble and tenor bells' tone remain, "..entirely typical of the work of the founder" - CJP)

The frame is of massive construction in oak. Its design suggests that it originates from the fifteenth century. All bells swing east to west. A set of ringers' rules dated 1782 and carved in stone is in the tower.

The were first quartered, in 1974 and have even been "pealed"*.
